Looking Backwards: ‘Chicago Tribune Tower Competition at 100’ (Reprise): ‘Welcome to Tribuneville’ Animation(I)

Welcome to Tribuneville. Video animation by Andrés Jiménez-Lobera. Fall 2022.

[Comes from the previous blog entry]: As an afterthought, and just a few days short of the event Chicago Tribune Tower Competition at 100 (November 21, 2022), I wondered, ‘wouldn’t it be nice if we turned this drawing into an old-school animation?’. So I turned to Andrés Jiménez Lobera, who was collaborating with me at the time, and asked if he could put something together. Indeed he could, and he did. He also probably hated me a little bit while he run against the clock painstakingly cutting and pasting vehicles, buildings, and other elements from/on a drawing that hadn’t been designed to be turned into an animation in the first place. Still, not only was the video finished in time (thanks, Andrés), but it also turned -again, through MAS Context’s mediation- into the seed of a much bigger project.

More on that later.
